How do I connect remotely using my web browser?

Dec 23, 2015

This feature is for Basic and Pro Editions only

Prerequisites

Please do the following before reading this article:

1) Enable remote access

Getting Started

Because Sighthound Video uses a self-signed certificate the first time you connect with a browser you will receive a warning "There is a problem with this website's security certificate." If you have a fully qualified domain name for your Sighthound Video host and your own SSL certificate you can replace this in the app's configuration.

This article will show you how to connect using Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox.

Connecting with Internet Explorer

Open Internet Explorer and enter the IP address of the web server. This information can be found and reset in Sighthound Video under Options in the Remote Access tab.

NOTE - If you are connecting from a computer that is not on the same network as the computer running Sighthound Video you will need to use the External Address. If you are connecting from a computer that is on the same network  you will need to use the Internal Address.

If the address does not bring you to the web server you may have entered the wrong IP address or remote access is not properly configured. Please visit our How to enable remote access article for troubleshooting.

The first time you connect you will receive a warning "There is a problem with this website's security certificate". Verify that the IP address in the browser is the address of your Sighthound Video web server and click "Continue to this website".  You can then enter the user name and password that you used when you enabled remote access.

Connecting with Chrome

Open Chrome and enter the IP address of the web server.
