Turn ON/OFF cameras with external source

by LarsA » Fri Mar 08, 2019 5:25 am

Hello everyone!

I´m a new user with Sighthound and so far I´m very satisfied with the performance!
Currently I´m only using the software for outside surveillance with 2 cameras.
One thing that is a bit of a hassle is turning on/off cameras. Is there any other way to do this except using the app och PC software? Ideal would be using my Athom Homey with one (or more) zwave/Zigbee buttons and use Hue lights to indicate if the cameras are running or not.
Is there any way of making such a solution? If it means that I need other hardware that´s fine, it was only an example.

Hello Lars,

Within Sighthound itself, the only way to automate turning ON/OFF cameras will be based on a time-based period where you can tell Sighthound that the camera should only be active within a certain time. To do that, you would have to tell all of your rules for a specific camera to only be active through a specific time frame. Once no rules are active, the camera will be disabled.

However, we have had other users who have had success in other areas on powering ON/OFF the cameras itself. You can find an example below:

Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, thank you!

Regards,
-Kevin
