Remote Access rights

by JohnS » Mon Sep 28, 2015 10:08 am

Hi,

Are there different permission levels for remote access? I would like to be able to have remote access to view only and not be able to shut off cameras. Is this possible? Or is there any workaround that I can do to make this possible?

It would also be nice to be able to restrict access so that certain users can only see camera 1 for example. Or only camera 2, or like 1 and 3 but not 2 and 4.

Is there any way to do this?

Hi JohnS,

At this time there are no permission levels for the remote access feature. That being said, anyone who logs in to your Sighthound Video remote server will only be able to view the video and clips, so you do not need to worry about someone deleting videos or changing any configuration.

That is mostly true except that it appears that anyone logging in can TURN OFF my cameras. Is that true?

Hi JohnS,

You are correct in that anyone who has your remote access login information can turn off your cameras. A view only user would be useful in such cases where you would like someone to be able to view your home footage but not be able to turn the cameras off.

Thanks for the confirmation. But such a "view-only" user option doesn't exist today correct? Any idea when this can/will be added?

Hi JohnS,

I'm afraid I can't give a solid release date at the moment, though I can say we do not have plans to add this in the near future. This is certainly on our list of features we'd like to add but there are several other features that are a higher priority at this time.

Is there any way you can just point me to the html code the server generates for the remote access page so that I can customize it to not include the slider switch to turn off cameras?

Hi JohnS,

The remote web files originate in the following locations (assuming default installation directories):

OS X: /Applications/Sighthound Video.app/Contents/remoteApp/*
Win: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sighthound Video\remoteApp\*

Note that it isn't expected that users would modify these files and they will be overwritten during app upgrades (and perhaps other times that aren't jumping in my head at the moment). Also note that on OS X modifying these files will invalidate the app bundle signature which may cause gatekeeper to complain or block opening of the app depending on your system settings.

Best,
- ryan
