Sighthound Video Transitioned to Open Source: Important Update for Users

We want to inform our Sighthound Video users that we are no longer updating the Sighthound Video software. However, we are excited to announce that we have transitioned Sighthound Video for both Windows and macOS into an open-source project. This transition will allow the developer community to participate in enhancing and maintaining the software moving forward.

Additionally, we’re collaborating with talented developers who will contribute to this new chapter. Please note that while most components will become open source, certain parts will remain proprietary due to third-party licensing restrictions. For these, we will provide binary builds at no or minimal cost if patent fees are required.

We look forward to embarking on this new journey with the open-source community and will keep you updated as we progress.

Known Issue with MacOS (Windows is uneffected)

We are aware of a crash when playing back video clips with audio enabled in Sighthound Video on MacOS.

  • If you are using MacOS and need to hear the audio in your video clips, you should NOT install this release.

  • If you are using MacOS and do not need to hear audio, you will need to mute the audio within Sighthound Video before upgrading to this version and keep it muted until the next release is available. To do this, open the Search Tab in Sighthound video and click the Speaker icon at the bottom right corner to mute audio playback.
