Video compression?

by oost » Sat Feb 26, 2011 1:06 am

It seems the videos are compressed by VitaminD. Is there a way to have the videos saved in VitaminD without any compression? I'm not worried about disk space, and I'd like to preserve video clarity as much as possible.

Hi oost,

Vitamin D must decode incoming streams and re-encode them to write to disk, and some compression is the nature of video encoding. We do use a quite high bit rate though, so quality difference should not be noticeable unless you are saving video at a different resolution than the camera is producing. Saving a 640x480 stream at 320x240 for instance is going to introduce a large drop in quality.
